What to expect, before you walk in the door.
What to expect, before you walk in the door.
You’ve been referred, and now you’re waiting on an appointment, wondering what happens next. That’s completely normal, and exactly what this page is for.
The more you know about how I work, what to expect, and what your options are, the easier the whole process feels. If your question isn’t here, get in touch. There’s no question too small.
I’ll have already been through your referral and medical history before you arrive. When we meet, I’ll confirm the details and talk through your history and the reasons you’ve been referred.
We may or may not need an examination. If we do, a nurse will be in the room to assist. If at any point you feel uncomfortable, we stop. You are in control of any examination, always.
The practice is a private billing clinic, with rates comparable to other specialist-led clinics and discounts for concession card holders. If cost is a concern, please contact reception.
In the public system at Peel Health Campus, you won’t receive fees from me, the anaesthetist, or for your admission. Going private at Waikiki, I’m a no-gap provider with all funds for every procedure, you will not get a bill from me (you may receive one from the anaesthetist, plus any insurance excess).
Yes, as a specialist, I see patients on referral from a GP. Ask your GP to send a referral to Dr Baxter Women’s Health.
Dr Baxter’s practice includes infertility workups and investigations for both female and male factors, so both partners can be assessed as part of the one coordinated pathway.
Same-sex couples are welcome at Dr Baxter’s practice, and he supports donor and surrogacy pathways as part of a tailored approach to fertility care.
Yes. Single patients are welcome, whether you’re exploring fertility testing to understand your options, looking into fertility preservation such as egg or sperm freezing, or considering solo parenthood through donor conception. Dr Baxter can guide you through the relevant investigations and, together with Genea.
Dr Baxter provides the specialist gynaecological and surgical care, such as fertility-facilitating surgery and infertility investigations, while Genea provides the technology and laboratory expertise. Together, this means one coordinated pathway rather than being passed between separate providers.
Fertility-facilitating surgery refers to surgical treatment aimed at improving fertility outcomes, such as addressing endometriosis, fibroids, or tubal factors. It may be recommended as part of an infertility workup if these conditions are found to be affecting a patient’s chances of conceiving.
Fertility preservation options, including egg and sperm freezing, are available as part of the fertility pathways offered in partnership with Genea.
Genetic carrier screening and preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) are both available through Genea. Carrier screening can identify whether you or your partner carry genes for certain inherited conditions, while PGT allows embryos to be tested before transfer as part of an IVF cycle.
“I approach your care the way I’d want my own family to be cared for, with full information, real options, and time to decide.”
